OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008

I must say, I've made it a point to watch as much of the Olympic games as I could. Why NBC chose to televise badmitton when there were other games of more interest being played, I'll never know.

Swimming - You gotta love Michael Phelps and the drive that boy has shown throughout the games. The men's swimming team showed extreme talent and perseverance, as have our women. Sweet Jesus, Dara Torres, at the ripe old age of 40 is amazing.

Gymnastics - That little Sacramone girl makes my heart sing every time she steps onto the mat. I love to watch these young athletes from around the world pour their hearts out each and every time they perform.

Beach Volleyball - Our men and women alike are wonderful to watch as they spike that ball into the sand, leaving their opponents to shake their heads, look at their hands and say "how the ..."

I happened to see an interview with Mark Spitz over the weekend. How gracious he was as he discussed Michael Phelps' chance to break his gold medal record.

The Olympic games are a pleasure to watch because they are comprised of athletes who are competing for the love of the sport and for the love of their country - not for the love of the contract they've just signed for40 mil.
